Hon Duale Seeks Swedish Support to Operationalize NEMA'S Designated National Authority
HON DUALE SEEKS SWEDISH TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO OPERATIONALIZE NEMA's DESIGNATED NATIONAL AUTHORITY DURING HIS MEETING WITH SWEDISH AMBASSADOR

Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Hon Aden Duale hosted Swedish Ambassador to Kenya Ms Caroline Vicini yesterday when she paid him a courtesy visit. The two leaders discussed among other things strengthening bilateral cooperation on carbon markets under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
The CS updated the meeting on the progress of the proposed Kenya-Sweden Memorandum of Understanding on carbon trading, set for signing in May 2025. Hon Duale further sought Sweden's technical and financial support to NEMA to operationalize the Designated National Authority (DNA) and accelerate carbon trading.
Hon Duale invited Sweden's partnership in Kenya's transition to a circular economy and acknowledged its USD 12M contribution to the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program, which enhances community climate resilience.
Also present were Principal Secretaries Dr. Eng. Festus Ng'eno (Environment and Climate Change) and Mr. Gitonga Mugambi (Forestry), alongside other Ministry officials.
